Sorted recovered paper waiting for pulping

Sustainability and impact

Responsibility belongs in the process.

What our materials and operations do for the environment and for people, with the scope and limits of each claim stated alongside it.

Materials and sourcing

Our raw material is someone else’s waste.

The mills run on recovered paper and board; the leaf line runs on fallen areca sheaths. Both would otherwise be landfilled or burned.

Recovered paper arrives through municipal and trade collection and from aggregators. It is graded before pulping, because consistent feed is what makes a consistent sheet.

Environmental claims and evidence

Each claim, with its scope and limits.

We publish environmental statements with what they cover and what they do not. Figures are added only once they are measured.

Recovered fibreOur paper mills use recovered paper and board as their raw material.Company-stated. Applies to the two paper mills.Recycled fibre shortens with each cycle; some grades need long-fibre input to hold strength.
Resource loops at the millsHusk fires the boiler, ash goes to brick-making and process water is returned to the boiler.Company-stated, not yet measured or audited. No volumes or savings are published until they are measured.
Leaf tablewareAreca plates are pressed from sheaths that fall from the palm, with nothing added.Company-stated process.Composting closes the loop only where a bin or facility exists.

Inclusive employment

Work designed for every ability.

Bollant employs more than 500 people, around 180 of them specially abled.

Inclusion here is an engineering choice. Stations are set up so a task can be done by touch, sight or sound; training is on the line; output standards are the same for everyone. We do not publish photographs or stories of individual colleagues without their consent.

Impact reporting

What we will report, and when.

We are building an impact report that covers recovered material processed, water and energy use at the mills, waste to landfill, and workforce inclusion, each with its method. Until it is complete, this page publishes no impact totals.

Questions

Questions buyers ask

What raw materials does Bollant use?

Recovered paper and board for the mills, and fallen areca sheaths for leaf tableware.

Is all Bollant packaging recyclable?

Plain paper and board is recyclable where a paper stream accepts it. Laminations and coatings change that, and we state it per product.

Are Bollant products compostable?

Single-fibre products such as areca plates can be composted where a facility or bin exists. Laminated paper products are not compostable.

Does Bollant publish impact figures?

Not yet. An impact report with methods is being prepared; until then no totals are published.

How does Bollant approach inclusive employment?

By designing tasks for touch, sight or sound, training on the line and applying one output standard.

Why does recycled paper need virgin fibre sometimes?

Fibre shortens each time it is recycled, so strength-critical grades may need a share of long fibre.

What does Bollant Industries make?

Recycled paper and board, industrial paper products such as cores and cones, corrugated and printed packaging, paper tableware, areca and sal leaf tableware, inks, adhesives and laminating films, and a small home and professional care range.

Where is Bollant Industries based?

The head office is in Somajiguda, Hyderabad, and the manufacturing units are in Telangana and Karnataka.
