Our purpose

Where everyone counts.

Waste should not decide what something is worth, and a person’s circumstances should not decide what they can do. Everything Bollant makes, and every company that has grown from it, comes back to that.

The purpose came first

We did not add a cause to a business. The business grew out of the cause.

The first aim was simple: create work for people the labour market had written off, and recover value from material society had written off. Then make something people would be glad to use.

Each capability came after it, in the order the problems demanded. Raw material was unreliable, so we went upstream. Bought-in inks and glues were uneven, so we made our own. Buyers abroad wanted a single supplier, so Bollant Foods was set up, and customers in North America led to Bollant Industries Inc. and EarthCleanse.

How one purpose became a group

  1. Opportunity for people
  2. Value from waste
  3. Manufacturing
  4. Products people are glad to use
  5. Honest business
  6. New capabilities
  7. Markets beyond India

What “everyone” means

Not a slogan about staff. A list, and we mean all of it.

Six groups of people whose interests every decision has to account for.

01

The person given a chance

Colleagues with disabilities, women from rural homes, people who never finished school: in skilled, paid roles that count on the line.

02

The farmer and the collector

Paid for leaf and paper they once burned or sold for scrap, and treated as suppliers with a buyer they can rely on.

03

The operator on the floor

Machines adapted to the person running them, instead of people bent to fit the machine.

04

The customer

Products that do the job, and claims that hold up when someone checks, including the ones we choose not to make.

05

The neighbourhood around the unit

Less crop burning, less dumped waste, and small local enterprises that supply us.

06

The people who come after us

Materials picked so that the end of use is not the end of the story.

Six pillars

The principles behind the work.

A pillar that only lives on this page is a slogan. These show up in ordinary decisions on every floor.

  • People. Opportunity is the product we are proudest of.
  • Planet. Waste has value. Use less, return more.
  • Purpose. A business should create opportunity, not buy it afterwards.
  • Values. Honest even when honesty costs the sale.
  • Innovation. Problems and discarded material are where new products start.
  • Global impact. What works here should work for people far from here.

Purpose in practice

Where the purpose changes a decision.

Six places where “everyone counts” is a working rule rather than a line on the wall.

Mission and values
  1. Hiring

We hire the person, then design the role and the machine around what they can do.

  2. Workplace design

Lines are laid out and retrofitted for the team that actually runs them.

  3. Raw material

Waste paper and leaf are bought as graded inputs, never treated as someone else’s problem.

  4. Quality

Products are made and checked to a specification a buyer can hold us to.

  5. Claims

We say only what we can show, even when a bigger claim would sell better.

  6. Capital

We bring idle plants back to work before we build new ones, and use recovered material before virgin.

Questions

About our purpose.

What does “Where everyone counts” mean?

That nobody in the chain is an afterthought: the person on the line, the farmer and collector who supply us, the customer, the community around the unit and the people who inherit what we leave.

Did Bollant start as a sustainability company?

No. It started with a purpose: work for people the job market overlooked and value from material the city threw away. The mills, the inks, the export business and the brands all followed from solving that, one problem at a time.

Is the social side funded by charity?

No. Impact that depends on a grant stops when the grant does. Ours has to be paid for by products that customers buy because they work.

What does Bollant Industries make?

Recycled paper and board, industrial paper products such as cores and cones, corrugated and printed packaging, paper tableware, areca and sal leaf tableware, inks, adhesives and laminating films, and a small home and professional care range.

Where is Bollant Industries based?

The head office is in Somajiguda, Hyderabad, and the manufacturing units are in Telangana and Karnataka.

How do I request a quotation?

Use the request-a-quote form. Choose the enquiry type, the product and your market, then describe the requirement. Only the essential fields are required.

Can I get specifications or test reports before ordering?

Yes. Use the documentation request on any product page. Documents are issued for the exact grade or format you are buying.

Is there a minimum order quantity?

Minimum quantities depend on the product and format, and are confirmed at quotation.
